BEGINNERS COURSE SCHEDULE

While we strive to follow our schedule, please note that this schedule is subject to change based on the class speed and on how we feel certain techniques need more focus.

WEEK 1

What you’ll learn:

  • A bit of theory on what is Crossbody Salsa and where did it originate from

  • Tempo and count

  • The basic steps in Salsa, Right turn and the cross-body lead


What techniques we’ll focus on:

  • Weight allocation

  • Intro to spot turning

  • Posture, open and close positions

  • Guiding the turn

WEEK 2

What you’ll learn:

  • Repeat last week’s steps

  • Left Turn

  • Focus on rhythm and tempo

  • “toss & turn”


What techniques we’ll focus on:

  • “quick quick slow”

  • Spot turning exercises

  • Guiding & Styling

WEEK 3

What you’ll learn:

  • Repeat last week’s steps

  • Cross-Body Let her go

  • “Hammerlock” move with back-step into closed position

What techniques we’ll focus on:

  • Improved following technique

  • Guiding turns with both hands

  • Back-step

WEEK 4

What you’ll learn:

  • Repeat last week’s steps

  • Two types of “Walk through”

  • “dile que si”

What techniques we’ll focus on:

  • Different ad-ons to the cross-body lead

  • Guiding a turn vs. a walk-through

  • Feeling the different leads

  • “Elasticity”

WEEK 5

  • Confusing hands

  • Hand drop

  • Hand-Shake to shoulder check
